Product Overview & Application Area
The Schönberg EPSR 400 is a buffer storage tank with a net capacity of 396 liters and a permanently installed lower smooth-tube heat exchanger. It serves as a heat storage unit for water-based heating systems and can be integrated into heating, solid fuel, solar, and CHP systems if the system design is suitable.
Thanks to the lower smooth-tube heat exchanger, the tank is suitable for system concepts in which heat is to be transferred to the lower storage area via a separate circuit. The EPSR 400 supports thermal buffering and hydraulic integration within the overall system.
Technology & Equipment
The storage tank is made of quality steel S235JRG2, is raw on the inside, primed on the outside, and stands on a base ring. The lower smooth-tube heat exchanger is permanently welded in and has a heat exchanger surface area of 1.8 m² on the EPSR 400.
For system connection, there are 8 charging and discharging connections with 1 1/2" female thread, 4 sensor and controller connections with 1/2" female thread, an upper vent with 1 1/4" female thread, and 2 connections for electric heating cartridges with 1 1/2" female thread.
Everyday Benefits
The EPSR 400 can temporarily store heat in the heating system, contributing to smoother operation of the overall system. The available sensor connections allow sensible integration into a suitable system controller.
The STS-EPS insulation is available in 100 mm or 130 mm versions. This allows the tank to be installed initially without an insulation jacket and then fully insulated after positioning at the final installation site.
System Integration & Compatibility
The buffer tank is intended for heating water in closed, water-based heating systems. It can be used in conjunction with heat generators, heating circuits, and suitable control components.
The lower smooth-tube heat exchanger can be used for solar or heating circuits, provided that the hydraulics, flow rate, temperature control, and regulation are planned accordingly. Safety valve, expansion vessel, venting, shut-off valves, and sensor positions must be coordinated with the overall system.

Assembly
The storage tank must be set up vertically on a level, load-bearing, and frost-free surface. Before installation, check the transport route, door widths, ceiling height, tilting dimension, and installation clearance.
The hydraulic connection, installation of safety devices, sensor positioning, venting, and connection of accessories must be carried out by qualified specialist personnel in accordance with the applicable rules of technology.
Notes
Operating pressure and operating temperature must not be exceeded. Before commissioning, check the connections, venting, safety group, expansion vessel, and the tightness of the system.
Electric heating cartridges may only be inserted into the designated connections. Electrical installation and testing must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
